1. The Ghent Taxi Rate Explained Simply

The Ghent taxi rate was officially set on 1 janvier 2024. Taxi tariffs in Belgium are officially set by cities or districts. The taxi tariff Ghent was last set in janvier 2024 and published in the official tariff ordinance. It is binding for all taxis and taxi companies within the compulsory driving area and may not be exceeded or undercut. This is ensured by officially calibrated taximeters installed in the taxis.

How the fare is made up under the Ghent taxi rate:

The Gent taxi tariff sets the charges for all licensed taxi rides in the city. The price you pay for a taxi ride in Gent is based on a combination of a base fare, distance traveled, and any waiting time. There are two periods used to calculate your fare: day and night.

During the daytime, from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm, the base fare is €10.00. This base fare covers the first 3.00 km of your journey. If your trip is longer than 3.00 km, each additional kilometer is charged at €2.60. If the taxi has to wait, for example in traffic or at your request, a waiting time fee of €46.00 per hour applies.

At night, from 10:00 pm to 6:00 am, the prices are slightly higher. The base fare during this period is €12.00, which also covers the first 3.00 km. For every kilometer beyond 3.00 km, the charge is €3.00 per km. Nighttime waiting time is charged at €57.00 per hour.

When you take a taxi in Gent, your fare is calculated using these rates based on the time of day. The total price will include the base fare, any extra distance charges, and any applicable waiting time fees. This system ensures that passengers can clearly understand how their fare is calculated before and during the journey.
