The Amsterdam taxi rate was officially set on 1 janvier 2025. Taxi tariffs in the Netherlands are officially set by cities or districts. The taxi tariff Amsterdam was last set in janvier 2025 and published in the official tariff ordinance. It is binding for all taxis and taxi companies within the compulsory driving area and may not be exceeded or undercut. This is ensured by officially calibrated taximeters installed in the taxis.

How the fare is made up under the Amsterdam taxi rate:

The Amsterdam taxi tariff sets out the costs for using a standard taxi in the city. When you start your journey, there is a base fare of €4.15. This is the initial charge that will appear on the meter as soon as you enter the taxi and your ride begins.

As the taxi travels, the fare increases by €3.05 for every kilometer you travel. The meter calculates this automatically during your ride, and it adds the appropriate amount based on the distance covered. This means the longer your journey, the more you pay according to the distance.

If the taxi is stopped or moving slowly, for example during traffic jams or at traffic lights, you are charged for waiting time. The cost for waiting time is €33.00 per hour. The meter will include this charge only when the vehicle is not moving or is moving slowly due to traffic conditions.

These rules apply to all standard taxi rides within Amsterdam. Passengers can expect a transparent and straightforward calculation of the fare, with costs based on the base fare, the distance traveled, and any waiting time during the ride.
